Biographical Information
Kelly Bridgewater
Kelly Bridgewater has been the Customer Relations Coordinator for CITES and the Office of the CIO since 2006. He serves as both a customer service ombudsman and a leader of special projects, related to improving customer service, such as this investigation of campus email needs.
Mike Bohlmann
Mike Bohlmann has been with the Office of Technology Management (OTM) on campus since 2002, when he joined the University as an information management specialist. Now, working as the Manager of Information Systems for the OTM at UIC as well, Mike performs IT services at all levels from end user support and application development to website development and management, which includes planning, strategy, and budgeting. Mike is currently working towards completion of a Master's degree in MIS from UIS with his thesis research focused on creating a framework to help IT managers and organizational leaders better understand each other and the role of IT within an organization.
Randy Cetin
Randy Cetin joined CITES in 1986 as research programmer in the "Graphics Group" and has since held numerous positions in the organization. An alumnus of the University of Illinois, Randy is the Director of CITES Systems and Technology Services. The STS division encompasses a wide range of service responsibilities that include the CITES computer labs, cost-recovery services for Unix workstations, CITES' two data centers and Operations Center, management of numerous production servers and services, and the development of integration tools and infrastructure services.
Christopher Clausen
Christopher Clausen currently works as a Network Specialist I for System Services in the Swanlund Administration Building. He has worked at a variety of departments around campus in addition to volunteering for the ACM@UIUC student chapter and taking classes here as well. He is continuing to work on a BS in Computer Science degree here at Illinois
Erik Coleman
Erik Coleman has been with CITES since 2000, serving as technical lead for Windows Systems with the Systems Management Group (part of CITES Systems and Technology Services), supporting many core production systems based on Microsoft Windows Server platforms, in particular, the UIUC Active Directory. Erik also spent time as a UNIX system administrator with the former Production Systems Group (PSG). He graduated in 1990 from Illinois with a BS in computer engineering and has many years of experience in system management and support in a wide variety of operating systems.
Mike Corn
Mike Corn came to CITES as the Director of Security Services and Information Privacy in December 2003 and is now the Chief Privacy and Security Officer. Mike originally came to Urbana for graduate school and has worked and taught in both the School of Music and the Department of Astronomy. During the mid to late 90s he worked as a developer, database designer, and policy work with University Administration.
Robert Croy
Robert Croy has been at the College of Education since 1999. He worked previously as a glass artist for 14 years before deciding to change his career to IT. Robert started as a troubleshooter and later became the Mac Specialist in the College. Now he is a Digital Media Specialist in the Learning Technologies Lab. His responsibilities include videotaping, editing, and managing a Podcast Producer trial with various colleges in the University. For nearly three years, he has worked for waterCAMPWS creating podcasts and streaming video from Power Point presentations at various scientific conferences.
Glen Embertson
Glen Embertson has been with CITES since 1998. Glen is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and holds the IAM certification from the NSA and DHS. Glen holds degrees in mathematics from Northern Illinois University (BS) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (MS), as well as a master of science in information assurance (MSIA) and certificate in emergency management from Norwich University. He is a member of the Chicago chapter of InfraGard, the National Fire Protection Association, the International Association of Emergency Managers, and is a TSA Registered Traveler. He prefers cooking nouvelle cuisine, ran his first marathon in October 2008, and is a left-footed attacking midfielder when the opportunity presents itself.

David Gerstenecker
David Gerstenecker has served the College of ACES since 1996. He currently is the team leader for Computer Support Services in the College’s Information Technology and Communication Services unit (ITCS). David remembers enduring the slow virtual technology of Microsoft’s Virtual PC in order to run Windows 95 on Mac OS 9. He is very excited to be working with current VMware Server, ESX, and Fusion technologies that clearly show how mature virtualization has become.

Paul Hixson
Paul Hixson currently serves as Assistant Dean and Director of the Information Technology and Communication Services unit in ACES. He also has extensive professional experience as a multimedia producer.
Craig Jackson
Craig Jackson has been with the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences since 2001. His current role as director for an information technology center (ATLAS) in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is to provide leadership to a complex unit which provides IT services to the College. One of his principal duties is to represent the College to vendors and create cooperative purchasing opportunities for the 54 departments and units representing the diverse nature of the College, as well as seek mutually-beneficial partnerships across campus.
Sally Jackson
Sally Jackson was named Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Associate Provost at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2007. Prior to becoming CIO at Illinois, Professor Jackson served as Vice President for Learning and Information Technologies and Chief Information Officer at the University of Arizona.
Janet Jones
Janet Jones is a recent addition to the CITES organization, joining the group in January 2008. She is the Manager of CITES Communication Customer Service, which provides Illinois with voice and data communications services, such as landline telephones, cell phones, voice mail, paging, and teleconferencing. Janet has over 16 years of experience in the communications industry.
Charley Kline
Charley Kline is the third person to hold the title of UIUCnet architect and has held the position since 1992. He manages the Network Engineering group within the CITES Division of Network Engineering and Services. He began work as a student computer operator on the IBM 360/75 and Cyber mainframes and went on to connect UIUC to the BITNET computer network as a graduate student. After graduating, he ported the 4.2bsd TCP/IP networking code to the Cray Timesharing System, while working for NCSA. Currently, the Network Engineering group is working on projects such as the next UIUCnet core, which will improve performance for research networking as well as provide better security for all users; new VPN and network authentication systems; readying UIUCnet for eventual support of telephony as well as data traffic; and supervising the deployment of the high-speed intercampus dark-fiber network, the ICCN.
Thomas Kunka
Thomas Kunka is the Coordinator of Network Systems and Operations and is responsible for support and planning in all aspects of computing technology and networking in the ITS classrooms as well as internal operations. Previous to his administrative and technical roles at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he served Illinois State University as Assistant Director of Computer User Services, where he managed the campus' technology training and student technology orientation programs.
Panit Lisy
Panit Lisy joined CITES in 2005, serving as the manager of Emerging Network Technologies and Services. In 2007, she became the acting Director of Network Engineering and Services. In early 2008, she became the Executive Director of CITES.
Subhan Malick
Subhan Malick joined CITES network operations in 2002. In 2004, he joined the Network Design Office, where he fine-tuned his networking skills and expanded his customer service skills. In 2007, Subhan became a Network Service Manager, taking on leading roles in DNS, Cisco MeetingPlace, and QuickConnect services as well as significant roles in Iris and Lens.
Drew MacGregor

Drew MacGregor has been with the Department of Computer Science since 1998, in both the roles of Hypermedia Communicator and currently, Coordinator of Educational and Multimedia Technologies. He has been in the field of streaming media since 1997. Drew designed the AV capture and delivery infrastructure in the Siebel Center and is a part of the campus multimedia steering group. Drew has extensively researched lecture capture systems for classroom recording, and currently coordinates media capture and delivery, video conferencing, and the videowall for the CS Department.

Brian McNurlen
Brian McNurlen is Manager of Classroom Support and Training in CITES Classroom Technologies. His group provides assistance to faculty who teach with presentation technologies in the technology-enhanced classrooms.
Michele Raupp
Michele Raupp, PMP, came to the university last October from Keane, Inc. where she held positions as an Implementation Coordinator, Project Coordinator and Staffing Manager. With 11 years experience in marketing and communications, and 10 years experience in IT, Michele has returned to her alma mater as the Project Manager for the university's domain name change project.
Terry W. Ruprecht
Terry W. Ruprecht is Director of Energy Conservation at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has 35 years of experience in higher education facilities, having served in administrative roles at the University of Illinois since 1988, including Associate Vice Chancellor and Associate Provost. Prior to Illinois he held engineering and administrative positions at Michigan State University for 16 years. Mr. Ruprecht is a registered professional engineer in Michigan and Illinois, and a Certified Energy Manager. His background includes an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, and graduate business studies at the University of Ghent in Ghent, Belgium.
Beth Scheid
Beth Scheid, CITES Director of Communications Technologies, has been a part of academic computing for over 26 years. During her time with CITES, she has overseen groups that designed, implemented, and maintained network data, wireless, voice, and DNS services for the campus. Currently, she is involved with the five-year project to upgrade the networking infrastructure in 159 campus buildings, the project to determine a better rate and funding model for campus voice and data, and the project to upgrade the current campus voice system.

Ryan Thomas
Ryan Thomas began serving the College of Education in 1995 as a CITES Departmental Services consultant for database development and network administration. Now, as Director of IT at the College of Education, Ryan leads a team of IT professionals who provide a wide range of IT services to the college. Involved in various IT-related campus-wide committees over the years, both Ryan and members of his team contribute to efforts to improve campus IT services and their articulation with colleges and departments.
Dr. Bradley C. Wheeler
Dr. Bradley C. Wheeler is highly regarded within the state of Indiana, nationally, and internationally for fostering new models of collaboration that have changed the economics of information technology in higher education. Dr. Wheeler also led University Information Technology Services at Indiana University in planning for a cyberinfrastructure to support the university’s goals for doubling funded research and scholarship, especially in the life sciences, an area critical to economic development in the state. Recognizing the importance of partnership to achieve this vision, Dr. Wheeler led a collaboration, for Indiana University, with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Purdue University, and IBM that resulted in doubling the capacity of the Big Red supercomputer. He serves in leadership roles for over $20M of shared university investments in open source software, serves on the board of the Sakai Foundation, and chairs the Kuali Project Board. As a Professor of Information Systems at IU's Kelley School of Business, Dr. Wheeler teaches MBA courses in Executive Leadership of IT Strategy, and has taught e-business and e-learning courses for corporate/academic audiences in 26 countries on six continents.

Andy Wilke
Andy Wilke has served as Assistant Director - IT for the Division of Campus Recreation since 2007. His duties cover a wide range of technology areas including network administration and support. Prior to this he cofounded Clarity Technology an IT consulting firm in Madison, WI where he was involved in IT consulting and management for a wide variety of clients and projects. He has been in the IT industry for over 15 years.
