Keynote:Edge, Leverage and Trust in an Era of Abundance
Should IT services be centralized or decentralized? To misquote Shakespeare, that is NOT the question. In an era of technology abundance, today’s relevant question is what IT service activities should be enabled and supported at the Edge where local skills, proximity, and domain knowledge are most relevant and which services are best provisioned with Leverage, scale, and efficiency. Trust is the essential element for success at a campus and beyond. |

3B: Avoiding the Compost Pile: The Current State of Continuity Planning
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning, once constrained to the shadowy land of server rooms and central switches, is now mainstream. It's so mainstream, in fact, that the whole endeavor is being buried in an ever growing tide of vendor white papers, competing “standards,” and other compostable materials. This talk cuts through the confusion and provides an overview of the current state of the art in continuity planning. Highlights include how continuity planning relates to emergency management practices (such as notification systems), the entrance of academic institutions into the fray, new tools and initiatives, some case studies and best practices, answers to popular questions (e.g. does my plan cover what it needs to?), and how CITES fits into the whole affair.
